  • Jul. 5th 2016

Location:
The B. Stimson Carrow Auditorium

The Musikzug Starkenburg Heppenheim will celebrate its 60th anniversary by visiting Smyrna and Clayton during the first week of July.

The band will march in the July 4th parade in Clayton at 9:30 am and then play in front of the Clayton Railroad Station along with the Citizens' Hose Company Band immediately following the parade.  In the event of inclement weather both bands will perform in the Clayton Fire House at 10:00 am.

On Tuesday, July 5, the German band will perform on our stage at 7:30 pm.  Doors will open at 6:45 pm.  Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for SOH members, senior citizens, and military, and $5 for children under 12.

The Musikzug was founded in 1956 by the volunteer fire company of Heppenheim, Germany.  Over the years they have performed all over Europe, Canada and the United States.  In 2014 they performed in Shanghai, China.

The band has won over 150 trophies and medals in national and international competitions.  Their repertoire includes marches, German folk music and contemporary selections.

This will be the sixth time a European marching band has taken part in the Smyrna-Clayton July 4th celebration.  The Dublin All Stars Marching Band from Dublin, Ireland has marched in three July 4th parades, and the City of Coventry (England) Corps of Drums and Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps from Romford, England have participated in the Smyrna-Clayton event.

The Smyrna-Clayton July 4th celebration is the oldest in the State of Delaware.

A full cash bar will be available.
